How to transfer large amount of files to another computer?

I am getting a new computer but my old one has about 5,000 songs and hundreds of pictures, several movies, and data for games i play not to mention hundreds of papers and assignments for school... I thought about getting a KVM switch to use one monitor for both computers and keep the old one to download and store music, but that wouldn't completely work for various reasons... So what is the best way to get all my info from one computer to another?|||get an External hard drive copy files onto it then plug into you new computer (probable via USB connection) which should detect the new drive and allow you to access the files this way you have two copies, Burning files to DVD would take longer and depending on how many files could take several DVD'S . Another advantage of an External Hard drive is you can plug it into any computer with the USB connection. Trademe might have a cheap one on offer or EBAY.|||create a small network using a switch to connect both computers. Then map the harddrive of the old computer on the new computer, and just copy the files from the old to the new.|||Burn them to blank DVDs, always good to have backups anyways. You could also network the computers if you know how to do such things.|||I agree with mti2935. But if you don't use the old computer anymore, you can get the harddisk out from the old computer and plug it in to the new computer. It should be easy. Just need a screw driver, nothing else.
