Many of them are based in Nigeria or other parts of Africa. It's so common in Nigeria that this type of scam is often called a "Nigerian 419 scam," because the section of the penal code in Nigeria that makes this a crime is section 419.

Don't ever reply to these e-mails, and never follow any Web links that they contain.|||dude, let me give you a small lesson on phising - an internet scam based on sending "we want to give you money" emails. They send these to everybody (they have bots to do that) and when an idiot replies they steal their account information.

want to learn more - google phishing

never give your account information|||They are just scams trying to get your personal info. Spam

Do not open any spam. Most spam today has a notifier attached which lets the spammers know that this an active email address.

Just put all spam in the spam or junk folder without opening it. After a while they will think your address is no longer active and quit sending you spam mail.

I went from 50 or 60 spam emails a day to 1 or 2 a day with this simple method.
