Is there a cable with a USB plug on both sides that would work? If so where can I buy one and for how much? I dislike using a middleman and the lan connections don't work well across Vista and XP.|||Do NOT USE an external drive. Its faster this way:
Get an ethernet cable.
Plug one end into the xp,
the other end into the vista.
The two computers should recognize each other.
Otherwise, follow the steps on
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libra鈥?/a>
go to the part that says:
Step 2: Transferring files and settings
Perform this step on the existing computer from which you are migrating user settings and files. Once the files and settings have been collected from your old computer and saved, you will move to the new computer to complete the wizard.
(find it by copying and pasting the above text into the find feature of the broswer)
By using the ethernet cable, you obtain upto a 1gbps connection, which is
the fastest way to connect two computers together.|||I did it the other way around, from Vista to XP laptop (so my Desk-top P.C. could go in to be wiped clean). I used a dongle...put it in USB port, and laboriously picked up the files and dropped them into it. Then put it into the lap-top (it didn't take long actually)...I did find that since I've only got Works on my PC, and my XP laptop has Word,,,,,when I returned the stuff later, I had difficulty opening the files. I loaded OpenOffice.org to act as a interpreter...but, I've still got stuff in the wrong 'language'
Since then I've been on the web and bought an external hard-drive - it was
拢54.97 from Tesco Direct (that included delivery charge UK/UK) Seagate Expansion 500GB|||*makes rofl in pants*
Double sided usb cable CLASSIC!!
wait, one more coming up LMFAOLOLROFLMAOWTFHAX
just get a big flash drive or external usb HDD|||External Hard drive.
